PRESS RELEASE
The Magpul Ronin is an experimental motorcycle project based on the Buell 1125R sport bike. The project itself represents the first iteration of a design exercise inspired by interests, hobbies, and passions shared by many within Magpul. Taken from the Japanese word for a samurai who lost his master, the name "Ronin" was chosen after the Buell Motorcycle Company ceased production and closed its doors in 2009. The model 1125R was selected due to its high level of performance and aesthetic potential that were never fully realized by Buell as a subsidiary of Harley Davidson.
Drawing inspiration from both modern and classic motorcycle design, the Ronin is a balance of form and function that maintains an aggressive, yet purposeful aesthetic. Using a combination of factory Buell parts and custom Magpul-designed components, the 1125R is transformed into a road-going sport bike that pays homage to classics like the Vincent Black Shadow, and to the café racer and streetfighter cultures that so heavily influenced the Ronin design. In order to ensure a seamless blend of style and performance, the stock Buell was rebuilt from the ground up with this vision in mind.
Suspension
The Ronin’s most obvious and controversial feature is its custom linkage fork and front-mounted radiator. Engineered to mimic the axle path of the stock Buell fork, this contemporary iteration of the venerable girder fork uses sealed bearings and modern hydraulics to provide performance on par with conventional telescopic forks. In addition to improvements in rigidity and tunability, a slight change in trail eliminates the heavy steering of the stock 1125R in turns, and yields a lighter and more responsive feel up front.
The dual side factory radiators have been replaced by a single custom unit, and repositioned forward to allow direct airflow to and from the radiator. Unlike the stock Buell configuration which forces hot air into the engine bay and onto the rider’s legs, the smaller, lighter Magpul radiator vents openly, thereby increasing rider comfort and lowering both engine and fuel temperatures. Utilizing lightweight materials and minimalist design, the complete Ronin front end is comparable in weight to the factory 1125R, allowing the steering to remain light and fluid.
Aesthetically, the linkage fork helps balance the visual mass of the fuel frame and swingarm, while the front-mounted radiator is reminiscent of a vintage hot rod grill. From a rider’s perspective, the vertical articulation between the machined aluminum linkage and the cast aluminum fork creates a visual experience that was lost with the advent of the modern telescopic fork.
Cockpit
Mounted atop the fork is a new cast aluminum handlebar and steering yoke, including a small integral Motogadget multifunction gauge to replace the large factory instrument panel. Designed to position the rider in a more comfortable, upright posture, the Ronin handlebars can be easily replaced with an aftermarket tapered bar via 1 1/8” handlebar clamp. Despite this extensive modification, the Ronin retains the factory ignition and steering lock, using the same factory key.
Supported above the engine by a minimal steel subframe is a cast aluminum tail section and air intake manifold, which form the foundation for the redesigned bodywork, air box, carbon fiber cover, and hand-stitched seat. Relocated from its original position in front of the engine, the factory intake has been replaced by two ram-air intakes now located atop the fuel frame. designed with increased cross sectional area, the new intakes are positioned just behind and below the handlebars for improved airflow. Together, this combination of custom components is largely responsible for the Ronin’s 50lb total weight reduction over the stock 1125R.
The addition of negative space beneath the rider serves to enhance the bike’s aggressive forward-leaning stance, while showcasing the machine aesthetic of the Rotax engine that is hidden in the stock configuration. Relocated from its original position, the factory seat lock is concealed inside the cast aluminum tail section, just in front of the custom LED taillight. Designed to compliment the lines of the factory fuel frame and swing arm, the tail section, seat, air box cover, and intakes form a unified body that sits naturally atop the frame of the 1125R to complete the Ronin’s distinct profile.
At the time of publishing (22 March 2010), the Ronin remains an ongoing developmental project, and all information regarding features, specifications, and availability is subject to change. A series of design revisions and additional modifications are in process, and more information will be released at www.magpulronin.com as updates become available.

KTM is presenting a near series-ready, four-stroke motocross race motorcycle with 350 cm³ at the EICMA 2009 in Milan. With this move, the sports motorcycle specialists from Mattighofen, Austria define a completely new path in Motocross.
Motor Sports and Development
KTM lives and breathes 100% motorsport. This is completely evident when the KTM Motocross Factory Team transporter again docks at the factory in Mattighofen after a long race weekend. Team boss: No-one less than MX multi World Champion Stefan Everts. His commitment creates fantastic possibilities for the factory because he is able to perfectly dovetail development and motorsport and in doing so, assists in writing a new chapter in the long, tradition-rich history of the Austrian manufacturer’s significant success in Offroad sport. With all of his immense experience and enormous energy, the meticulous Belgian is driving a very special project, the results of which carry the stamp of the MX legend right down to the smallest detail as well as those of the powerful KTM genes. It is this symbiosis that carries the promise of something really special. It underlines KTM’s proven core competence in the area of Motocross and is being proudly presented to the public for the first time on the occasion of the EICMA in the form of the new 350 cm³ MX concept.
With this pilot project version of a completely new Motocrosser, KTM again demonstrates the courage and determination to leave the beaten path. Its benchmark data with 350 cm³, linkage and injection are based on a broadly applied, permanently ambitious development that is carried out always looking straight to the future. This is a radical new interpretation of an existing structure with a clear goal: maximum sporting success and enthusiastic customers!
Why 350cm³, injection and linkage?
When one observes KTM’s hugely successful 2009 Motocross season, it is hard to recognize any room for improvement. Marvin Musquin excelled in picking up the MX2 title with teammate Rui Goncalves close behind as MX2 vice world champion, Max Nagl triumphed as vice world champion in the MX1 class and Steffi Laier wrapped up the women’s world championship title. But it is exactly this success story that provides the fertile soil for KTM’s untiring will to advance – and this is exactly the vision of the KTM Factory Team – to continue to improve on their established strengths and at the same time to explore a whole new path. This is “Ready to Race” in the broadest possible context.
The future
A new concept does not however mean that KTM will place less importance on its traditional models – KTM is still READY FOR TAKE OFF governed by the will to win and the stop watch. Therefore for the 2010 season, the well known, newly presented 2010 models – the SX 250-F in MX2 and the SX450-F in MX1 will be in the starting lists. And, as in 2009, they will surely continue to celebrate great success in 2010. Meanwhile the “Project 350” continues to run at high pressure. With these moves, KTM’s traditional obligation to its customers remains completely valid: What the factory riders’ use on the track is always also available for sale.

Classic hillclimb
Mad Cow Classic hillclimb p/b Mesa State cycling team
no reason not to palp a fixie in the hillclimb.
Tyler M. bibs up represents for the hipsters here in Fruita, USA. when he's not crushing the vert, Tyler teaches middle school about 30 km from where he lives with his wife (and recent addition to family, Lucille) in Fruita. he usually commutes on the same bike. i'm pretty sure that he was rocking "Tommy" on the mod headphones as part of his warm-up routine.
in Le Tour de France, if a rider is fortunate enough to pass through their home town during one of the stages of the race, the pelican sometimes allows them the honor of riding ahead of the race in order to greet their families and friends who have gathered at the roadside and waited throughout the day for the arrival of their hero.
things being a bit more chill here in Fruita, Tyler didn't have to ride off the front of the bunch in order to get some last minute quality time with his new baby & baby's mama, Bobbie.
some words of encouragement for fellow participants before the race. Netana rides for Mesa State cycling and is one of their top riders.
i raced, too
after his race, this rider claimed to have "good sensations" while climbing. most normal people would call them "hallucinations".
at the start of the race we had Netana's mom, dad, brother & Chechu distributing lights to riders who didn't have their own. they have supported Netana throughout her cycling career, in addition to getting up early on their weekends off work to volunteer at Mesa State cycling team sponsored (in addition to other local) events for many years.
this is a great opportunity to again say thanks to all of the volunteers who made the event happen, as well as the Mesa State cycling team. we'll see you again next year.
Netana's mom collects the lights as tales of the battle were regaled afterwards.
Chad: "dude... you so cut me off on that turn up there..."
Dave: "ummm, uh, well..."

HARLEY-DAVIDSON ROLLS OUT NINE NEW MODELS FOR 2010
More Performance, Features and Value Across Six Motorcycle Platforms
MILWAUKEE (July 25, 2009) - Harley-Davidson roars into 2010 with nine new motorcycle models, the most expansive new-product introduction in the history of the Motor Company. Across six model platforms, Harley-Davidson achieves a fusion of tradition and technology in a motorcycle product line that offers more power, luxury, and style, and more value.
"This ambitious new motorcycle launch reaches to our riders with the incredible passion that Harley-Davidson has inspired for more than a century," said Bill Davidson, Harley-Davidson Vice President of Core Customer Marketing. "We are thrilled to offer our customers nine new models and a full selection of products for 2010 that lets their enthusiasm for enjoying great motorcycles continue at full throttle."
Highlights of the 2010 Harley-Davidson® line include:
As the new king of the Harley-Davidson Touring line, the Electra Glide® Ultra Limited model delivers the performance upgrade of a Twin Cam 103™ engine, and features standard equipment items previously offered only as accessories on regular-production Harley-Davidson Touring models.
The new Road Glide® Custom model looks lean and mean, with a slammed suspension, 18-inch front wheel and a new 2-into-1 exhaust system.
The Wide Glide® returns as an all-new Dyna® model done in old-school chopper style, with black laced wheels, a chopped rear fender, black "wire" sissy bar, 2-1-2 Tommy Gun exhaust and an optional flame paint scheme. Priced starting at $14,499, the Wide Glide is also a great new value.
The new Street Glide® Trike brings stripped-down, hot-rod styling to the three-wheel category, and joins the Tri Glide™ Ultra Classic® in an all new Trike family for 2010.
Dressed in satin chrome and denim black, the new Fat Boy® Lo presents a darker and lower interpretation of the motorcycle that still defines the fat-custom segment.
The 2010 Street Glide® model gets even more hot-rod soul, with updates that include a larger front wheel, slimmed-down exhaust, and a new tail light assembly. Street Glide takes a classic Harley-Davidson Touring profile to a low, light and lean extreme.
No motorcycle on the road today matches the modern street attitude of the three exciting models in the Harley-Davidson VRSC™ family: V-Rod®, Night Rod® Special and V-Rod Muscle®. The explosive performance of the liquid cooled Revolution® V-Twin engine keeps VRSC at the top of the power cruiser food chain in 2010.
The American motorcycle legend that is Harley-Davidson Sportster® features six models for 2010, including the $7,999 Iron 883™ introduced mid-year 2009 and four others priced less than $10,000.
Harley-Davidson Custom Vehicle Operations™ (CVO™), masters of shimmering chrome and bold paint, offers four new limited-production models for 2010. The CVO Softail® Convertible is a versatile urban touring motorcycle, while the CVO Street Glide is a high-performance hot-rod bagger. The CVO Ultra Classic® Electra Glide® and CVO Fat Bob® models are refreshed for 2010 with new paint schemes and styling details. All CVO models are powered by a Twin Cam 110™ engine, the largest displacement V-Twin offered by Harley-Davidson.
